Game Overview
Nightfall
You are Maxim Dranov, a special operations soldier from the Republic of Etraveris, sent to investigate a remote gorge on the border of hostile Novachoria. What you find isn’t just evidence, it’s something far older, far deadlier.
Nightfall is a slow-paced survival horror experience where light is your last defense and every decision counts. Movement is deliberate, ammo is scarce, and the anomaly stalking you plays by rules you haven’t learned yet. Customize your gear, salvage what you can, and survive until morning.
If you make it back to camp, you might live. If you don’t, the dark will decide.
Can you make til’ dawn?
The Mission
The mission was meant to be simple: enter Twin Veil Gorge, recover proof of foreign interference in the Petty War, and return before nightfall. But the gorge is not as empty as it appears to be... Something moves in the shadows; something that doesn’t care about politics, borders, or sides.
In Nightfall, you step into the boots of Maxim Dranov, part of a four-person special operations unit deployed deep in hostile territory. The terrain is steep, the air is damp with mist from hidden waterfalls, and the only way forward is through a labyrinth of rock, water, and darkness. What begins as a reconnaissance and salvage operation quickly becomes a fight to stay alive until sunrise.
Gameplay
This is not a run-and-gun shooter. Movement is slow and intentional, with walk, run, and a limited sprint that must be used sparingly. A lean mechanic lets you check corners without exposing yourself, and every step feels like a choice.
Your primary weapon, a rifle, and your trusty sidearm are reliable, until they aren’t. Weapons can jam, magazines are finite, and every bullet matters. Muzzle flash can drive the anomaly back, but only briefly, and only if it sees it.
Survival is about preparation and adaptation. Before leaving base, you can customize your rifle with attachments, but once you’re in the gorge, you’ll have to make do with what you find. Sometimes you’ll need batteries, forcing you to scavenge replacements, but they drain fast. Flash-bang grenades are rare, bio-illuminance sticks offer light without protection, and your flashlight is weak and unreliable.
The gorge offers more than danger; it offers resources. You can’t build from scratch, but you can salvage and restore. Find a dead generator and bring it back to life. Lay wires to power lights. Reinforce a shelter to buy yourself a few more precious minutes. Every improvement is temporary, every safe zone fragile.
The anomaly is patient. It stalks from the shadows, waiting for the moment you’re distracted, low on ammo, or out of light. It cannot be killed easily, and when it strikes, escape is rare. You’ll need to hide, misdirect, and sometimes simply run.
With a minimum active playtime of around 3.5 hours, split between a tense, story-driven opening and an unscripted survival phase, Nightfall is designed to be replayed, studied, and mastered. Every run teaches you something new about the gorge, the anomaly, and yourself.
Series Foundation
Nightfall is the narrative and tonal foundation of the series. It introduces:
- The Geopolitical Backdrop: A fractured world of proxy wars, misinformation, and covert alliances.
- The Mythos: Anomalies that defy science and morality, hinting at deeper forces at play.
- The Protagonist: Maxim Dranov, whose survival (or death) shapes future entries.
- The Gameplay Loop: A blend of scripted tension and unscripted survival, where light, silence, and timing are core mechanics.
This first installment sets the thematic DNA for the series: isolation, distrust, and the cost of truth. It’s not just a horror game; it’s a warning shot. Every game that follows will build on the mystery of the anomalies, the political fallout of the Petty War, and the legacy of those who dared to enter the dark.
Atmosphere
Every step in Nightfall feels heavy with consequence. The gorge presses in around you, its walls swallowing sound, its shadows hiding more than rock. You move slowly, not because you want to, but because you have to, listening for the scrape of stone, the rush of water, the breath that isn’t yours.
Where is it?
Your gear is your lifeline, but it’s never enough. The HK416 in your hands feels solid, but you know the magazine is running low. The night vision hums faintly against your helmet, its green glow fading with every passing minute. Somewhere out there, the anomaly is watching... waiting for the moment you slip, hesitate, or run out of light.
Can you see it?
You’ll scavenge what you can: a dead generator to coax back to life, a string of lights to push the dark back a few meters, a shelter that might hold until dawn. Every choice is a trade-off. Do you risk the caves for batteries, or stay in the open where you can see the stars and be seen yourself?
Is it watching you now?
The sole focus of Nightfall isn’t simply winning. It’s about lasting. It’s about the quiet moments between heartbeats, the flicker of a dying bulb, the sound of something moving just beyond your vision. And when the sun finally rises, if it rises for you, you’ll know exactly what it took to survive and live to fight another day.
